Slitt Wood, an ancient woodland, to the north of the village is a place of peace and relaxation. It follows the Middlehope Burn and provides one of Weardale's favourite walks with a series of attractive waterfalls and over 100 varieties of wild flower during the spring and summer.
There is a children's play park in the village and an outdoor swimming pool in Stanhope.
Local attractions: The Dales Centre. Killhope Wheel and Lead Mine, Hamsterley Forest.
Good transport links: there is a bus service from Stanhope to Cowshill.
Hexham, Alston, Teesdale and Consett are only a 30 minute car journey.
