Compass Touring Caravans were a part of the The Explorer Group, which was rebranded as Eldiss in 2009. During the rebranding the Compass brand was dropped and the successful Compass Xplore range became the Elddis Xplore.
However, in 2010 Discover Leisure made a partnership with The Explorer Group (Elddis) and together they produced a new range of Compass Caravans. The caravans were sold through the Discover Leisure dealerships in the UK, and finance was provided by Compass Venture. The Compass Venture range comprised of 4 best-selling layouts: 452, 495, 544 and 546.
In August 2011 the Compass brand was looking strong again with positive reviews of the new Compass Volante, a premium luxury caravan exclusive to Discover Leisure Plc. The Volante was to be showcased at the 2011 NCC Motorhome and Caravan Show, and was described as the most luxurious model in its class.
However, just before the NCC show Discover Leisure pulled out, and on 17th October 2011 it was reported that Discover Leisure had gone into administration. This marked the end of the Compass brand. The Compass Venture 495 was one of the last Compass caravans to be sold in a £1m firesale in November 2011.
Compass produced several ranges of caravans, of which the Corona, Omega and Rallye were the most popular. The second-hand market is still strong and there are many Compass fans.
The Compass Club was founded as the Compass Owner's Club in 1983, but since 2009 has dropped the "owner" part of their name and is now open to all Caravan and Motorhome owners.
